Special Education Summer 2013 Training a Success!

From July 14, 2013, until August 15, 2013, The U.S. Special Education Advisory Committee trained and sent seven specialists to two identified lead SEN schools, Changangkha Middle Secondary School and Mongar Lower Secondary School, for embedded training.   The team was able to make remarkable progress in both schools focusing on staff development, forming of an effective Special Education Needs Team, screening procedures to identify students with learning difficulties, remediation services, development of Individualized Education Plans, classroom management strategies, and inclusive classroom accommodations. In addition, the team provided professional development trainings for the general education teachers on instructional strategies and explicit lesson planning.

For all identified SEN schools that serve the needs of students with disabilities, the Special Education Program donated teaching and learning materials, as well as assistive devices for their Resource Rooms.   Her Majesty Ashi Tshering Pem Wangchuck, co-chair of the Bhutan Foundation, officially handed over all the donated materials to the Ministry of Education. On behalf of the Foundation, Her Majesty also thanked the seven volunteers this summer for making immense progress in the schools and said that she looks forward to future collaboration work in Bhutan.
