Wangsel Institute, located on the campus of Drukgyel Lower Secondary School in Paro, is a boarding facility for children with hearing impairment. Established in 2005, it continues to maintain a close connection with Drukgyel Lower Secondary School. They have developed their own sign language for Bhutan. With support from the Special Education Program they have also been able to better serve their students with mild to moderate learning difficulties. Teachers at the school, along with assistance and training from the Ministry of Education and various donors, have created speech classes to benefit appropriate students. The Wangsel InstituteÂ also offers a vocational program for their students in the productions of Bhutanese handicrafts, woodcraft, tailoring and bakery. The Bhutan Foundation Special Education Program in partnership with AmanKora also helped establish a transition program for students at Wangsel Institute to intern at AmanKora resorts in Paro. The students will intern at variousÂ departments in this high-end resort including the kitchen, housekeeping and front desk during the school year for two days per week.
