July 30 2014, The Special Education Program in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, with members from the U.S. Special Education Advisory Committee and other specialists, held a three-day Special Education Needs (SEN) Conference in Thimphu, â€œBuilding an Effective Special Education Needs School.â€ This conference was for all SEN schools in the country, including Principals and SEN teachers catering to the needs of children with disabilities, the Special Education Needs Coordinators (SENCOs), . Also in attendance were administrators from the Ministry of Education, Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), the Special Education Division, and the District Education Officers (DEOs) as well as trainers from the Teacher Training Colleges. Prior to the three-day conference, fifteen Bhutanese trainers underwent a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) program to further roll out the SEN program to more schools throughout the country. This has been successfully accomplished each year at the Special Education Winter Conference held by the Ministry of Education.

This conference followed the embedded training by a team of specialists sent by the U.S. Special Education Advisory Committee, which took place at SEN schools, Changangkha MSS, Drukgyel LSS, as well as Wangsel Institute.
